(for your convenience: at a glance daily calendar towards the bottom of the page) Community page link to the left has several opportunities.
You may have noticed a period on your child’s schedule titled Mustang Minutes. Mustang Minutes was designed to support all students at their level. Students will either receive extra instruction from teachers in the areas of reading and math, social/emotional learning, enrichment activities, or speaking & listening and argumentation. Student needs were determined by MAPS scores, FAST reading assessment scores, Iowa Assessment scores from last school year, and some skill based assessments this fall. Groups have been created by teachers and leaders based on this information. On Monday, students will begin instruction in these Mustang Minute groups based on their needs. If you have any questions regarding Mustang Minutes please feel free to email or call Mr. Haugse. School: 319-895-6254 email: email@example.com.

Other information below kept on for reference
Attendance reminder: While we realize that your child may need to be gone during the school day for various reasons, it is very important for them to be in school as much as possible. It is also important that the school is contacted whenever your child will not be attending school for all or part of the day. Whether it be an illness, doctor appointment, or some other reason, please remember to contact the school. You can always leave a voicemail at 319.895.6254 at anytime during the day, night or weekend. Please try to notify us by 8:30am if your child will be absent or leaving during the school day. If you prefer to send an email, please send it to both Patty Mote and Chiara Burke with the date and time frame your child will be absent, leaving or returning during the school day. Sending the email to both of us will ensure that your email is received in a timely manner if one of us is not available on any given day. Thank you.
NOTE: Current physicals AND Concussion forms must be on file with the MS office prior to practicing. A new concussion form is needed each school year and good for the school year.
Sports Physicals: If your child will be participating in Middle School sports (7th & 8th graders) please make sure they have a current Physical and Heads up Concussion form on file with the school. Physicals and Concussion forms are required before a student can start practice. Fall sports (Cross Country, Football and Volleyball) start within the first week of school. Physicals are good for a year past the date of the exam. Click here for a physical form and here for a concussion form. If your child hasn't had a sports physical and will need one, summer is a great time to get that done!
The Mount Vernon School District has partnered with Tanager Place of Cedar Rapids to help support our students. Seeking support can be a challenging process and Mount Vernon School District believes this is a great opportunity for families to utilize within the walls of our schools. Please contact Jennifer Tischer, our school counselor or Linda See, our school nurse for more information. If you would prefer, you can also contact Kristin Cannon directly at firstname.lastname@example.org

Activity Passes or cash are needed to get into all Middle school and high school athletic events. State sponsored post-regular season athletic events (i.e. playoff/tournament games) always require payment for admittance for ALL students. Students with cell phones are encouraged to take a picture of their activity pass, that way they will most likely always have it handy. All students without activity passes will need to pay cash at the gate of sporting events. Reminder: Activity passes are not accepted during post season games.
