2020-2021 - will your child be in band, chorus and/or orchestra?
An email went out on Wednesday, 05/13 to current 5th, 6th & 7th grade parents regarding music specials (band, chorus, orchestra) that your Middle School student will be participating in next year. We will need this information in order to get schedules ready for next year. If you didn't receive the email or have any questions, please email Patty Mote email@example.com. If you haven't completed it yet, please do. Here is the link for the form. It only takes a few minutes. Thank you!

PowerSchool System Update
The district has recently started updating our PowerSchool student information system in preparation for a transition to a new contact management screen. The transition will take place in June. As we work through these updates, some of the data that currently transfers from PowerSchool to our notification system School Messenger has been removed. You should not notice a difference in your School Messenger notifications. However, if you feel that you are not getting emails from us, please log in to your parent School Messenger account to verify your settings and email address(es) for notifications. The link to the School Messenger parent account login may be found on the district home page (www.mountvernon.k12.ia.us) under Log Ins, School Messenger.
School Messenger Log In Instructions
School attendance is one of the most important aspects of school success. Research confirms that regular attendance enhances student achievement and learning. Parents partner with MVCSD staff to encourage regular school attendance for all MVCSD students. Did you know that students who miss 18 or more days in a school year for any reason – just 10% – are considered chronically absent, which can hurt their academic achievement and put them at-risk of dropping out? The school day begins at 8:15 AM. Teachers take attendance at that time. To eliminate disruption and minimize the repetition of class instruction, please have your child in the classroom by 8:15.
News from your School Nurses:
Other information below kept on for reference
Attendance reminder: While we realize that your child may need to be gone during the school day for various reasons, it is very important for them to be in school as much as possible. It is also important that the school is contacted whenever your child will not be attending school for all or part of the day. Whether it be an illness, doctor appointment, or some other reason, please remember to contact the school. You can always leave a voicemail at 319.895.6254 at anytime during the day, night or weekend. Please try to notify us by 8:30am if your child will be absent or leaving during the school day. If you prefer to send an email, please send it to both Patty Mote and Chiara Burke with the date and time frame your child will be absent, leaving or returning during the school day. Sending the email to both of us will ensure that your email is received in a timely manner if one of us is not available on any given day. Thank you.
NOTE: Current physicals AND Concussion forms must be on file with the MS office prior to practicing. A new concussion form is needed each school year and good for the school year.
Sports Physicals: If your child will be participating in Middle School sports (7th & 8th graders) please make sure they have a current Physical and Heads up Concussion form on file with the school. Physicals and Concussion forms are required before a student can start practice. Fall sports (Cross Country, Football and Volleyball) start within the first week of school. Physicals are good for a year past the date of the exam. Click here for a physical form and here for a concussion form. If your child hasn't had a sports physical and will need one, summer is a great time to get that done!
Please keep your student's lunch account above zero.
Activity Passes or cash are needed to get into all Middle school and high school athletic events. State sponsored post-regular season athletic events (i.e. playoff/tournament games) always require payment for admittance for ALL students. Students with cell phones are encouraged to take a picture of their activity pass, that way they will most likely always have it handy. All students without activity passes will need to pay cash at the gate of sporting events. Reminder: Activity passes are not accepted during post season games.
